Why is the last letter just random here, unlike this site's other ID generators?
Most identity numbers on this site (like NRIC or GSTIN) have a publicly documented checksum this generator can compute correctly. PAN's final letter does not — the Income Tax Department has never published the algorithm — so there is no 'correct' value to compute, and the letter is generated randomly along with the other unchecked characters.
Can I choose what type of PAN holder to generate?
Yes — pick from individual, company, HUF, firm, trust, Association of Persons, Body of Individuals, local authority, juridical person, or government, and the generator encodes that type in the PAN's 4th character.
Is this a real, usable PAN?
No. All characters are randomly generated (with your chosen holder type encoded in the 4th position), so the result is not assigned to any real person or entity by India's Income Tax Department.
Why generate a PAN if the checksum can't be verified anyway?
The structure itself is still useful to test — form validation, field-length limits, and holder-type-specific logic (e.g. showing different KYC fields for a company vs. an individual) can all be exercised with a structurally correct but fictitious PAN.
